A large number of research initiatives and scientific discoveries at the Medical University of Vienna stem from the immunology/allergology/infectiology area of research. In order to boost this successful field of research even more, in its development plan, MedUni Vienna has defined the field of immunology/allergology/infectiology as one of its main research clusters.
As an additional organizational measure, the Center for Pathophysiology, Infectiology and Immunology (CePII) was created to bring most of the research groups conducting theoretical research in these areas together under one roof. Within the Center, these research groups are subdivided into four institutes according to subject areas, in order to maximize the use of resources and to facilitate the planning of joint activities: these are the Institute of Hygiene and Applied Immunology, the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research and the Institute of Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine.
