The Comprehensive Center for Chest Diseases (CCCD) is intended to facilitate close cooperation between all institutions and professional groups of the Medical University of Vienna and the University Hospital Vienna with tasks in prevention, diagnostics, management, therapy, prophylaxis, knowledge transfer and research into lung and thoracic diseases - with the aim of continuously improving and further developing patient care, research and teaching as well as education and training in this specialist area.

One example of this is the treatment of patients with lung cancer, the most common malignant tumor disease in Austria and the second most common tumor disease in men and women. This requires extensive and effective cooperation in the form of indication conferences and tumor boards.

The aim of the CCCD's flagship project "Optimization of treatment processes for curatively treatable lung cancer" is to minimize delays in diagnosis and initiation of therapy and thus make a significant contribution to the survival of these tumour patients.
