The focus is on interdisciplinary exchange in order to guarantee optimal medical care for pregnant women, children and adolescents with acutely life-threatening, rare diseases or chronic conditions.
In addition to the five clinical departments of the University Hospital for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine including the St. Anna Children's Hospital, the core areas of the centre include the clinical department for obstetrics and fetomaternal medicine, the clinical department for paediatric surgery and the University Hospital for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
The central concern is patient centred, cutting-edge medical care, from the unborn to young adults, in the interdisciplinary interaction of a wide range of specialists and professional groups. Through the convergence of the disciplines, parents and children are placed at the centre and not the individual speciality. The aim is not only to improve patient care but also to improve the possibilities for science and teaching in the interaction of the disciplines involved. This should enable innovative research goals to be achieved more quickly and efficiently.
