MedUni Vienna’s Department of Ophthalmology and Optometrics at Vienna General Hospital is one of the largest eye clinics in Europe. In keeping with its level of responsibility, the Department has both an academic and a medical function. For example, the academic area performs important functions such as the training of students and young specialists and the scientific development of diagnostic and therapeutic advances within its field.
At the same time, the hospital plays an important role in providing medical care to the public, in particular to the residents of Vienna. The ophthalmology department works closely with other departments and divisions to provide comprehensive and optimized medical care.
The Department not only treats patients in its own ophthalmology clinic but also provides an ophthalmological consultancy service to all departments and divisions within the hospital. The Department of Ophthalmology sets great store by its international collaboration with other medical institutions, research funding institutions and industrial partners.
