The symposium " The Future of Parenthood" organised by Christiane Druml and Peter Husslein, addressed the potential of modern reproductive medicine and the associated legal and ethical implications. The 2015 amendment of the Reproductive Medicine Act has changed the situation in Austria. The aim of the international, interdisciplinary symposium was to create a dialogue between domestic reproductive medicine and international developments and debates.
On the first day of the symposium these questions were explored in different formats including a keynote lecture, two panel-sessions and a concluding panel discussion (with a focus on the Austrian situation) in German language. Two panel-sessions focusing on rare diseases and an international debate within the UNESCO followed on the second day.
This workshop was organized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology/Medical University of Vienna, the UNESCO Chair on Bioethics, the Josephinum – Ethics, Collections and History of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases and the Austrian Commission for UNESCO.
