About us

The Department of Pediatric Cardiology is the oldest pediatric cardiology department in Austria. In the tradition of the Vienna Medical School, we at Vienna General Hospital strive to provide high-quality medical excellence in the service of the young patients entrusted to us and see ourselves as a regional and supra-regional competence center for children and adolescents with heart disease.

The clinical and scientific dialog between the disciplines united at the Children's Heart Center Vienna is the prerequisite for the best possible treatment and scientific examination of children and adults with congenital heart disease.

Integrated into the university network for congenital heart disease of the Austrian medical universities and through national and international cooperation, we take epidemiological and health policy developments into account.

Student teaching, advanced training events and continuing education programs in the additive subject “Pediatric Cardiology” keep communication with referring physicians and hospitals alive.

Our medical and scientific activities focus on the treatment of congenital heart defects that require surgery, cardiac catheterization or hybrid therapy, complex life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, severe heart failure and heart transplantation.

Our treatment concepts comply with international standards, which we tailor to the uniqueness of each child and their disease.
