Small circuit Pulmonary circulation; in healthy people, oxygen-poor, carbon-dioxide-rich blood is pumped from the right ventricle via the pulmonary artery into the lungs, where oxygen is reabsorbed and carbon dioxide is released; the blood then returns via the pulmonary veins to the left atrium and thus into the large circulation.
