Students enrolled in the master’s degree programme in Molecular Precision Medicine aiming to work on their master’s thesis during an internship in a laboratory in another European country may be eligible for a funded ERASMUS+ traineeship.
Traineeship requirements
- Scope: Internship (MPM8) or Master thesis
- Receiving institutions must be located in one of the 27 EU member states, Iceland, Republic of Türkiye, Norway, Serbia, Liechtenstein or North Macedonia
- Duration: Minimum duration two full months; maximum duration twelve months
- Workload: full-time
Application process
1. Internal application
Students who wish to apply for an ERASMUS+ traineeship funding should submit a 1-page motivation statement to mpm@meduniwien.ac.at, explaining:
- why they want to join a particular lab
- why they deserve to be funded
- what they will gain from the internship and how it relates to their future career ambitions.
They should also attach the confirmation of acceptance for an internship/Master thesis by the destination lab.
This will be evaluated by the Curriculum Directors and Module Coordinators along with:
- evidence of continued attendance of lectures and seminars
- track record of engagement with lecturers (e.g asking good questions)
- strong examination/course performance
- evidence of additional internships/extracurricular activities that are geared towards a future career in biomedicine.
Requests may be submitted at any time, but please note that recommended scholarships will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis.
2. Application to the International Office
Selected students must apply to the International Office by completing the online application form in Mobility-Online and submitting the required supporting documents six weeks prior to the start of their traineeship:

- Learning Agreement for Traineeships
ERASMUS+ Grant
The Erasmus+ mobility grant is a contribution to your travel and subsistence costs, with the amount of funding determined according to the group of countries. Applicable rates can be found here.
The Erasmus+ mobility grant can be received in addition to any salary to be paid for the traineeship and in addition to federal aid for students (“Studienbeihilfe”).
The Erasmus+ grant is paid after the signing of a grant agreement between the student and MedUni Vienna in two instalments: 70% at the start of the stay and 30% after the stay.
