Admissions

To participate in a university course at the Medical University of Vienna, applicants must meet the admission requirements that are specified in the respective curriculum.

When registering, it is essential that you present the documents that are listed in the registration form. You must also observe the admission deadlines. Admission is not possible outside the specified deadlines.

You can find the specific application requirements of your desired university or certificate course on the corresponding websites for that course or programme, along with the contact details for a contact person who will be available to provide you with detailed information on your desired study programme.

Electronic Submission

We kindly ask applicants to university courses to scan the necessary documents and email them to thee-mail address provided in the application form. Your details will be checked by the program management. In case of ambiguities, it may be necessary for you to show us documents in the original or a certified copy (more information on this in the next paragraph) or send them by post.

Formal requirements for documents

Prior to admission to a university course, you must submit original or certified copies of documents proving that the admission requirements have been met.

A certified copy is the confirmation by an authentication official (e.g. notary public), a district court, or the issuing authority that the copy of a document corresponds to the original.

Foreign Certificates and Documents

Foreign documents will be recognized if they are provided with the required diplomatic certification – as an apostille or with full diplomatic authentication. More detailed information on this can be found on the information pages of the respective federal ministry, e.g. www.bmeia.gv.at/reise-aufenthalt/urkunden-und-beglaubigung/.

If the documents are not submitted in German or English, they must be submitted together with a translation by a court-certified translator. The translations must be firmly attached (sealed) to the original document or a certified copy. In principle, the original document should already have all the required certification stamps (apostille or full diplomatic authentication) so that these can also be translated. You should therefore only have translations carried out after certification.

Costs and Enrolment

Non-degree (extraordinary) students who only participate in a university course must pay the course fee and - for further enrolment - the ÖH fee. However, extraordinary students are exempt from paying the tuition fee for regular medical studies.

If you have been accepted into a university course, course management takes care of the initial registration of courses at the Medical University of Vienna. Only after two tolerance semesters have expired do you have to report a continuation yourself.

ÖH-fee included

The ÖH (Students Union) fee (including insurance) is included in the course fee for the minimum duration of studies plus two tolerance semesters.

However, if you are unable to complete the course within the scheduled duration of study, you will have to pay the ÖH fee yourself.

Courses as Extraordinary Studies

The Medical University of Vienna offers postgraduate training in the form of university courses (according to § 56 UG) and certificate courses. According to the legal definition, these courses are extraordinary studies (§ 51 (2) Z 20 UG). The participants in these university courses are therefore considered extraordinary students.

Extraordinary students are those people who have reached the age of 15 and who would like to attend courses or a university course for a certain period of time.
